The Right Mindset

She was sitting in front of her desk with a paper to sign. Go or no go? That was the question.

She was not sure about her decision. She was aware that this decision may call for a lot of turbulence in her personal life and uncertainty in her professional life. On one side of her desk, there was her nameplate, Priya – General Manager, and on the other side, there was this paper of her resignation.

She was not resigning from her position, but from a dream career, any woman can ever dream of. She was turning her back on all the luxuries, perks, and a lucrative offer as Asst.Vice President. With a heavy cheque.

There was a constant inner dialogue in her head

“What will go wrong? Will I be able to manage it? It’s insane? What about all the hard work? What about my financial responsibilities? I have just come out of a troubled marriage, how am I going to manage this all alone? No one in my family has become an entrepreneur. I have no experience, no support. Maybe this is not the right idea.

At the same time, somewhere in the world, Rishi was thinking, “Should I take over this company? Have I thought through this? What if I go wrong? I already have a billion-dollar company. Do I need to do this?”

We all go through such dilemmas in life. It doesn’t matter where we are in life. Be it a decision to leave the job to start something on your own, major decisions of life, or action you are afraid to take.

The outcome of everything depends on only one thing. And that is Mindset.

What is this mindset? As the word itself suggests, the way we set our mind to something. The meaning that we give to the situation. Am I seeing this situation as a threat? or Opportunity?

We have many types of mindsets we unconsciously exercise every day. Below are some types.

The Comfort Mindset: Where we choose things that give comfort.

The Growth Mindset: Where we make decisions that add up to our growth.

The Risk Mindset: Where we are willing to take risks.

The Positive Mindset: Where you are determined to see the positive side of every situation.

Some mindsets block your growth and stop you from experiencing success.

The negative Mindset: Where your primary focus is on the negative aspect of a situation

The victim mindset: Where you always have reasons/ create reasons to feel sorry about yourself. And the list goes on…

If you want to experience the outcome with utmost contentment, you need to have the right mindset.

The right mindset is contextual. Your mind can discover the right mindset that’s going to help you in a particular situation. (Again, you need to have the mindset for this too)

What is the right mindset! You will experience the right mindset when

  • You are clear about your intentions
  • You are aware of the consequences and work on them upfront
  • You are aware of the belief systems that hold you back from having a right mindset
  • You know which are your core values that drive your decisions
  • Your passion and vision are far bigger than the challenges at hand
  • You develop the ability to switch your mindsets as and when required

There is no readymade answer to which mindset one must possess. We all have the full potential to discover what is the right mindset for a given situation. The right mindset.

Remember! The journey from “Can I do it?” to “I did it” is crossed only with the right Mindset.
