A journey from Machinery Business to Digital marketing…

A Mumbaikar, now settled down in Pune, Saumitra Ghotikar is balancing two businesses and both are equally interesting. Well, all it was started with a Machinery Business and eventually it reached to a digital marketing company!

A mechanical engineer by Education, Saumitra (when started his career from a small fabrication unit in 1983 ) didn’t have any Business Background at all. Passing through very difficult initial period, he started a pharmaceutical machinery business. But he was determined to be an entrepreneur and not to work under anybody. In 2003, he established his unit to undertake Turnkey Supply of Mineral Water Plant and Machinery. Earlier he was into a bottle filling and slowly he started manufacturing as well as supplying Mineral Water Plants. During 2003-04, the Internet was in its initial phase in India.

“At that time I worked for a customer in Tamilnadu. Language was the major barrier to communicate. Hence, on his suggestions, Icreated series of Video Clippings, uploaded on Youtube (it was not a google property then) and surprisingly got the dream order. This was the main trigger to venture into Online Marketing.” Said Saumitra.

While continuing with his Mineral Water Machinery Business, Saumitra now decided to venture into Online Marketing to offer to SMB’s business. He created his own website for packaged drinking water which ranks Super High on Google even today. Till date he has been successful to create multiple income streams of income.

However, it was not the end; rather it was a new beginning. Usually it’s observed that the people in Online Business seldom have an Online business of their own. However, it was not the story of Saumitra, who leads the industry by his own example.

Explaining his own online venture, he explained how he innovated the “Home Study Course” for Mineral Water Plant entrepreneurs. Currently the Mineral Water Plant supply division has Live 2-Days Training course besides the Home Study Course, and also consults the new entrants in the field. He has trained over 1,200 entrepreneurs out of which, nearly 1/5th have started their business ventures in the field.

A strong follower of Bhagvadgeeta, Saumitra believes in ‘Customer Satisfaction’. ‘A customers’ success story is my success story,” he says. “We create our identity through our work. Nothing gives satisfaction than a happy face of our customer,” he added.

Always in search innovation, Saumitra focuses on different ideas for his clients. Every Wednesday he runs a ‘Digital Marketing OPD’. This again, was received very well by the SMB’s. Now he is concentrating more on ‘Conversion Focused Digital Marketing’. His target audience is ‘step-up’ entrepreneurs, who do not have business background in family or who are first generation entrepreneurs. He teaches them how to make money online through ethical business.

Currently, His offerings spread into two verticals; the path was never that easy. He has tasted bitter experiences and difficulties throughout his journey. There were times when he decided to shut off the business.

Recalling the bad patches in his business, Saumitra said, “First set back was in 1998 when I tasted my first failure.

Due to his dedication and experience in digital marketing, he is often invited by different institutions for delivering lectures for young entrepreneurs. He has already conducted many trainings at several organisations like Maharashtra Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (MCED), CII run BYST, BAIF, PMA, AIMA, and so on.

Saumitra enjoys his entrepreneurial journey with his team of 25 trained workforce. With healthy work environment at his office, he always encourages team work for efficient work and good results. For him his business is social work. He believes in four pillars of a business namely a Customer, Business Owner, Employees and the Service Providers. Interestingly, Saumitra who prefers not to use own Vehicle, dreams his employees drive a car to office.
