Mr. Shriniwas Jannu
Janata Khadi Bhandar
A mechanical engineer by qualification and a visionary entrepreneur by spirit, Mr. Shreenivas Jannu is a man driven by heritage and heart. Hailing from a humble Padmashali weaver family, whose roots trace back to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, his lineage is steeped in tradition, craftsmanship, and resilience. His ancestors migrated to Maharashtra during British rule, escaping oppression while carrying forward their age-old artistry of handloom weaving. This deep-rooted legacy of fabric and finesse was carried forward across generations and found its future torchbearer in Mr. Jannu.
In 1997, after absorbing the ethos and operations of the family business from his father and grandfather, Mr. Jannu seamlessly transitioned from engineer to entrepreneur. By 2001, he had already envisioned the future of Khadi and rebranded their iconic store from Janata Khadi Bhandar to Khadi World -a bold, modern identity with traditional soul.

About Janata Khadi Bhandar and Khadi World
Founded in 1946 by Mr. Jannu’s grandfather, Janata Khadi Bhandar was more than just a shop ;it was a movement rooted in the values of India’s freedom struggle, sustainability, and self-reliance. It showcased hand-spun, handwoven fabrics at a time when Khadi was more than cloth: it was character.
Building on this legacy, Khadi World emerged as a contemporary face of Khadi- catering not just to the older generation but also resonating with the youth. Under Mr. Jannu’s stewardship, the brand diversified into supplying Khadi materials, readymade garments, and exclusive designer pieces that align with modern tastes while preserving the integrity of the fabric.
From fashion designers and interior decorators to schools-colleges and corporate houses to celebrities, Khadi World now caters to a wide range of clientele. It’s a one-stop destination for casual wear, festive attire, and daily essentials made in over 500 vibrant colours and in premium blends like Khadi Silk, Cotton, and more.
Why Khadi?
Khadi is not just a fabric: it’s a philosophy. It carries the weight of a nation’s freedom, the values of sustainability, and the strength of self-employment. Promoted by Mahatma Gandhi as a symbol of Swadeshi, Khadi has evolved from being perceived as coarse and colourless to now representing eco-fashion at its finest.
Mr. Jannu understood that the modern customer seeks both comfort and conscience. With this in mind, Khadi World shattered myths about Khadi being dull or expensive. It offers an extensive colour palette, trendy cuts, and affordable pricing, proving that tradition and trend can go hand in hand.

Our Future Steps
The journey doesn’t stop here. With eyes set on expansion, Khadi World plans to embrace the digital age by amplifying its presence through social media, e-commerce platforms, and a robust franchise model. The dream is to see Khadi World stores not just across India, but globally -where Khadi becomes a lifestyle choice across cultures and continents.
Training aspiring entrepreneurs in the Khadi business, offering guidance, and promoting ethical manufacturing will remain key parts of this growth. For Mr. Jannu, the future lies in building a sustainable ecosystem around Khadi, making it accessible, aspirational, and proudly Indian.

Our Customers Are Our Pride
Ask anyone who has visited Khadi World, and you’ll hear stories of loyalty and legacy. From grandparents to their grandchildren, customers return to the store with cherished memories and specific fabric requests from decades past. Some arrive with samples of garments bought 20–30 years ago, asking for the same weave, colour, or comfort.
That emotional connection that sense of trust is the true award of Khadi World. It’s not just about sales, but about stories. Families choose Khadi World not just for a garment, but for milestones from weddings and festivals to casual outing wear. And to ensure complete satisfaction, the store also stocks non-Khadi fabrics, making it a holistic fashion destination.
Social Work by Khadi World
With great heritage comes great responsibility. Khadi World is deeply committed to giving back to society. The brand actively supports education for underprivileged children, contributes towards medical assistance for the needy, and is a proud participant in campaigns that provide prosthetic
hands to the differently-abled.
In addition, Khadi World empowers individuals who wish to start their own Khadi-based ventures offering them insights, training, and opportunities to enter the world of sustainable fashion with confidence and clarity.

Mr. Shreenivas Jannu stands as a shining example of how tradition and transformation can coexist. His message to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple yet powerful:
“Give your best in whatever you do. Keep your customers at the heart of your business. Adapt with time, and above all, stay rooted in values.”
In every thread of Khadi, lies a story of resilience, legacy, and love. Thanks to visionaries like Mr. Jannu, Khadi isn’t just surviving …it’s thriving.
