For me, it has always been about the perfect fit—be it clothes, circumstances or my dreams to reach every corner of the globe. I am Sai Ratnaparkhi, the heart of Aabandh, and my life is a testament to the art of bringing pieces together seamlessly…or shall I say fittingly! It started early. My father then being with the SBI in Solapur in Maharashtra, it was here that I began my formal education. Fitting the many twists and turns life made me go through, I eventually arrived at Pune, one of India’s most liveable cities. Always a confident and good student, I naturally gravitated towards software, the best thing then furthered by the presence of many in the extended family who were in the field. I began my career at 19 as a lab assistant at Pune’s esteemed Wadia College going on to earn my BE in Computer Science from Pune’s MIT College of Engineering, which later saw me return as a professor.

Parallel to my academic and professional life was another side of me that I hadn’t till then fully embraced—my love for the arts. Painting, pottery, clothing design, I pursued these with a fervor matching my education while spending hours discussing these with near and dear ones. And it wasn’t just fabric that I transformed; my pottery and paintings adorn homes across Pune to this day. Employment being a necessity then, for nearly a decade I poured my energy into software, trying to fit in into a mould that never quite excited me. Going the family way, I didn’t want my children to be strangers to my presence. Aabandh in 2016 was the outcome.

In less than a decade, it has grown into a brand with 10,000 customers worldwide with new ones joining almost daily. Our highlights remains our presence at events and exhibitions across Maharashtra. People flock to us, assured of the latest styles, quality materials, fair prices, and of course, that perfect fit. At the core of Aabandh is a variety that fits every reason, season, occasion, and budget. Sourcing the best from every corner, we harness technology in the form of customized software and original patterns at our art studio and production units in Pune & Mumbai.

Our prints in particular are high in demand. Intricate and delicate, they nevertheless withstand the roughest handling—endless washing, ironing, exposure to the elements—and retain their beauty. The smallest leaf, the finest line, the faintest glow on a dress, all these remain pristine from purchase to the eventual, often reluctant, farewell after years of wear. Priced acceptably, our products have reached the shores of USA with customers there now being our ambassadors, helping spread the Aabandh brand across the globe. Expanding our reach, we use e-commerce, multi-brand stores, and resellers, with the latter being a particular point of pride as they bolster my brand without diluting it. Our own walk-in store on Pune’s prime Karve Road, near the iconic Karishma Society, stands as a testament to careful planning and brand integrity.

Reflecting on my path, I realize that despite a small team, we’ve gone places. Credit goes to my family, especially my husband for always being supportive. A software specialist and creator of startups acquired by the likes of Cisco, his ideas we look forward to at Aabandh. Anticipating trends, he has been advising our team, ensuring we’re always ahead of the curve. My two sons too pitch in and I I look forward to the day they, and perhaps their partners, find it fit to join us.

I draw inspiration from industry leaders like Biba and Aurelia & have infused social responsibility into Aabandh’s fabric. Believing in giving back, we support the less fortunate, like the tribals in Nashik, with gestures that go beyond mere fabric. It’s about making a difference. If there’s a secret to success, it’s to stand out, surprise with creativity, maintain quality, and ensure the perfect fit. Aabandh isn’t just fitting into the fashion world; it’s weaving itself into the hearts and wardrobes of all all its customers and users.
