The pandemic wasn’t all about death and destruction. In part, it did a lot of good, especially in the field of education. Among others, it turned the paradigm on its head that you need to go places to get an education and get that from a load of books.

And it brought to the fore the outstanding work by Yes Pustak, a Mumbai-based Ed-Tech startup that came about just on the eve of the pandemic in May-2019. Born at the hands of serial startup entrepreneur with a decade of experience behind him, Ashwin Patil had to his credit by then two successful startups.

In a matter of a few years, Yes Pustak has found its spurs with recognition coming from established corners, including Startup India, for promoting the immensely significant idea of e-learning. Its resolve is visible in all that it does, right from its logo, a coming together of tablet and book that brings forth the concept of “Your child’s first step towards smart education.”

Typical of startups, Yes Pustak started with two employees in the corner of its founder’s home. With a tech product of immense significance, the entity has found its niche and has a measure of success that is evident from its having grown to 22 employees today. Its primary focus today is on application features and hardware essentials. Towards this, the application is a product of its tech-rich team that has used advanced, contemporary technology. Hardware comprises a “YES” Tablet with a 10-inch screen that takes into account essential considerations, including security and performance. For security’s sake, the tablet remains fully locked without a camera, screenshot, USB data transfer, or a browser. The tablet hosts only the YES Pustak app that gets loaded when the gadget is switched on.

An Android application, the YES Pustak app is for students to see and peruse educational books by procuring them. A bouquet of amazing and unique features are present in the app, of which the following stand out.

• Book purchase at almost 50% discounted price.
• Downloaded books come in an editable format, meaning students can answer questions and do their exercises in books themselves.
• Students can do things including listening to an audio playlist of chapters, highlighting text, using a word dictionary and Google Translate, or making notes – all with just a few clicks!
• Students can also access other education apps linked to the Yes Pustak app, including ePathshala, MyCBSE Guide, Zoom and some other educational applications.

YES Pustak’s most ideal customers, not surprisingly, are students whom Yes Pustak approaches through their respective schools. In their kitty today are two schools in Delhi and one in Mumbai that has brought them over 2500 student-users. Ambitions, though, remain sky-high to serve over a lac students in the next few years.

With their driving force being the provision of one-stop solutions to students in the post-pandemic era where education can take place effectively at remote locations, YES Pustak has planned and approached various investors. Their greatest obstacle of putting in place a great team having been addressed, YES Pustak’s milestone now includes onboarding a minimum of 10 education book publishers. This milestone runs parallel to their aim of onboarding a lac of users.
