Dr. Aarohi Kulkarni is a distinguished Microbial Biotechnologist, entrepreneur, and thought leader with over two decades of experience spanning academia, research, and industry in India and abroad. Holding a PhD in Biotechnology, she has further honed her expertise as a Visiting Scholar at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York, and as a Nehru-CII-Fulbright Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. Her vision is to position India as a global leader in industrial biotechnology while promoting sustainable and socially impactful solutions.
Currently, Dr. Kulkarni is the Founder-Partner of AANandini Solutions and Enterprises, a firm dedicated to providing sustainable biotechnology solutions in the agricultural, pharmaceutical, and industrial sectors. With a team of nature-inspired professionals boasting over 45 years of cumulative experience, the company’s mission revolves around reversing human-induced ecological impacts while promoting sustainable business practices. The firm is widely recognized for its consultancy in laboratory and factory setups, product development, process excellence, and organizational and leadership development.
Dr. Kulkarni’s professional journey began at the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, and continued at Praj Industries, where she rose to the role of Principal Scientist in Microbiology and Renewable Energy. She played a pivotal role in commercializing technologies such as lignocellulosic ethanol, probiotics, animal healthcare products, and India’s first Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants using press mud and agricultural residues. These innovations have contributed to the nation’s clean energy initiatives, sustainable farming practices, and rural economic models.
Research, Innovation, and Impact
Dr. Kulkarni has authored 13 peer-reviewed publications, five book chapters, over 60 conference presentations, and holds seven patents. Her translational research bridges laboratory concepts with commercial applications, including patented processes for microbial pre-treatment of agri-residues, enzyme evaluation systems, and compressed biogas production. Her expertise spans enzyme and peptide purification, industrial applications of cellulases and xylanases, and peptide-based nanomaterials.
Beyond research, Dr. Kulkarni is deeply committed to education and societal development. As an approved PhD guide at Savitribai Phule Pune University and Symbiosis International University, she mentors students, delivers workshops, and engages in curriculum design to prepare the next generation of skilled scientists. Her social initiatives include viral disease awareness campaigns, organic and sustainable farming guidance for farmers, and leadership workshops for youth and professionals. To date, her rabies awareness campaign alone has reached over 3,000 individuals.
